A ‘Loser’s’ Online Comeback – NBC & Walgreens Collab on New Series

It’s not often that a national pharmacy chain and a major TV network join forces. By our count it’s never been done before until now with Walgreens and NBC teaming up to bring a new version of “The Biggest Loser” — one of NBC’s most popular program — as an original web series.

The web series spans eight episodes, all currently available on NBC.com, and follows former “Biggest Loser” contestant and fan favorite, Filipe Fa on his journey to reclaim his life. Fa lost 135 pounds on the seventh season of the show but couldn’t manage to keep it off. Adding another compelling layer to the show is Sione Fa, Filipe’s cousin who was also a contestant on “Biggest Loser”. Sione, however, managed to keep the weight off, change his life and is now a personal trainer at the biggest loser ranch. Together, the cousins will turn Filipe’s life around.

Walgreens’ two-year-old health initiative “Way To Well Commitment” program that, according to their site, “is focused on improving your everyday health through the prevention and early detection of today’s leading diseases, like heart disease, cancer and diabetes,” inspired the series.

“The Biggest Loser is changing how Americans view health and wellness, and together we are highlighting Walgreens’ ‘Way to Well Commitment’ by sharing Felipe and Sione’s dramatic stories,” says Megan McCambridge, divisional vice president of customer relationship marketing for Walgreens.

Walgreens recently launched “Steps with Balance Rewards,” an incentive program that lets customers earn points by participating in health-related wellness activities.

Paired with NBC’s Biggest Loser at Home Program — where viewers compete to lose weight at home on their own — Walgreens is set to see big results by inspiring show fans to meet their weight loss and health goals in the new web series.

This is the first time Walgreens has ventured into the online video space.

“We’ve been a long time sponsor [of the ‘The Biggest Loser’],” says Walgreens spokesperson, Mai Lee Ua, “This opportunity was a great fit and supports our commitment to help people get, stay and live well.”
