Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian is partnering with Vox Media’s tech and culture site, The Verge, on a new weekly interview series that will track the early days of various New York-based tech startups.

As Ohanian tells The Hollywood Reporter, “Small Empires with Alexis Ohanian” will be an “‘Inside the Actor’s Studio’ meets ‘Dirty Jobs’ for tech in New York.” He will speak with successful entrepreneurs about their companies’ early days as well as users of the platforms. Some tech startups that could be profiled include Etsy and Uber.

Keeping with The Verge’s self-description as a tech and culture site, the goal for the show is to make it accessible to all kinds of audiences, not just the tech aficionados. “The one thing we didn’t want to do was a show that was like a ‘startup person’ show. We want to make a show that is appealing to a general audience,” Vox Studios creative director Chad Mumm told THR.

Ohanian originally pitched the series to broadcast and cable networks, but soon shifted to working with Vox Media after appearing on The Verge’s weekly program, “On the Verge.”

Vox Media is no stranger to online video, as the company staffs an in-house production unit that shoots original programming for its three major properties: the sports blogging network SB Nation, tech and culture site The Verge, and gaming site Polygon. Vox Studios also produces video coverage of relevant major industry events like CES and E3.

“Small Empires” will consist of 10 episodes, each lasting eight to 10 minutes. Produced by Vox Studios, the current plan is to debut the series on July 29.
