Amazon Studios Greenlights Kids Pilot from Electus
Amazon Studios, the production unit of Amazon.com, has added another children’s pilot to its original programming slate. Produced by Electus, “Maker Shack Agency” will follow a 13-year-old inventor and his two best friends in the town of Akron, Ohio. In the science- and tech-infused show, the trio will run a consulting firm of sorts. In each episode, the three “makers” will use their knowledge of science and technology to invent something new to solve other people’s problems. The show is meant for kids ages 6-11.
“We are incredibly excited for our first initiative with Amazon and we look forward to inspiring the next generation of makers,” said Drew Buckley, COO and head of digital for Electus, in a statement. “With ‘Maker Shack Agency,’ we hope to inspire kids to think about new and different ways to solve life’s problems and to never be afraid of failure — as Wolfie always says, ‘Fail Forward.’”
The production crew for “Maker Shack Agency” will team up with research and development firm Applied Minds to create “exciting gadgets” for the show.
It’s no secret that Amazon is pushing more into original programming, but it appears that the studio is focusing more on kids programming versus its original comedy slate. From its original lineup of 14 kids and comedy pilots, Amazon picked up five shows for full seasons. Three of the shows — “Annebots,” “Creative Galaxy,” and “Tumbleaf” — were kids shows. These shows, along with “Alpha House” and “Betas,” are scheduled to arrive on Prime Instant Video later this year and in early 2014.
Then last month, Amazon greenlit five new kids pilots, including “Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street,” “Grid Smasher,” “Hard-Boiled Eggheads,” “The Jo B. & G. Raff Show,” and “Wishenpoof!” The pilots for these shows will be available on Prime Instant Video in early 2014. Per the Amazon model, consumers will then get the chance to watch the pilots and give feedback, which will go into Amazon’s decision to pick up any of those shows for a full season.Tags: Alpha House, Amazon Originals, Amazon Studios, Annebots, Betas, creative galaxy, electus, tumbleaf
