“Annoying Orange” Lands Second Season on Cartoon Network
By any way you want to measure it, The Collective’s Annoying Orange property can probably be considered one of the first true online video success stories — it’s hard to argue against more than one billion views on YouTube.
What originally was a viral video, and then a web series, and then picked up by Cartoon Network for a TV series, can now be accurately defined as a multiplatform video franchise: Cartoon Network plans to premiere the second season of the show on Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 pm.
The second season of “The High Fructose Adventures of The Annoying Orange” will bring back the titular character as well as his “produce pals,” and a fruit stand proprietor played by YouTube vet Toby Turner. The guest voice cast for the coming season includes some names you might recognize, such as Dave Grohl, Rainn Wilson, (Weird) Al Yankovic, Kellan Lutz, Olivia Munn, Gilbert Gottfried, David Cross, Jack McBrayer, and more.
Developed and produced by The Collective, the TV show was co-created by Dane Boedigheimer (creator of the “Annoying Orange” web series) and Tom Sheppard (Emmy-winning writer for the classic cartoon series “Pinky and the Brain”). The first season averaged close to 2 million viewers per premiere episode, and will be available on DVD on May 28.Tags: annoying orange, cartoon network, web to tv
