AwesomenessTV Buys Big Frame for $15 Million
Consolidation! Except here it’s an MCN buying another MCN — a first.
AwesomenessTV, the teen network acquired by DreamWorks Animation a little under a year ago in deal that could be worth up to $117 million, has acquired YouTube talent network Big Frame.
The deal is worth $15 million in cash, including repayment of outstanding debt. It’s expected to close this month.
Big Frame’s talent network encompasses more than 300 channels, 39 million subscribers, and 3.4 billion lifetime views. Combined, AwesomenessTV now claims a reach of 80 million subscribers and close to a billion views a month, serving categories like beauty, fashion, fitness, and music.
Per the deal terms, Big Frame’s executive team, including CEO Steve Raymond and chief creative officer Sarah Penna, as well as the company’s talent managers, will join AwesomenessTV. It’s not been much of an industry secret that Big Frame has had multiple conversations in the past year to get acquired.
“With AwesomenessTV committed to aggressive growth, the acquisition of Big Frame enables us to bring on expertise in talent development as well as a great group of YouTube stars,” said AwesomenessTV COO Brett Bouttier in a statement. “Sarah and Steve have a great track record for identifying and developing talent and we believe that working together we can build talent brands that will transcend YouTube.”Tags: Acquisition, AwesomenessTV, Big Frame, consolidation, Dreamworks Animation, MCN, youtube
