BREAKING: Awesomeness TV’s Dives into Dude-Centric Channel AwesomenessX
The ink is barely dry on Awesomeness TV’s recent acquisition by Dreamworks Animation and the teen/tween-centric MCN is already looking to bulk it’s offering for the male kind with the debut of AwesomenessX.
Said to house original sports, gaming, comedy, pranks and lifestyle content for male teens and tweens, AwesomenessX will adopt the existing male-ready content such as The City – Basketball, Sk8 Spotterz, Blow Up Guys, That Was Awesome and How to Be Awesome.
More importantly though the new channel will begin airing new original series – two docu-web series Skate City China and ATV Gamer and, in true teen male appeal, Hot Models which will feature swim suit photoshoots of “the most beautiful girls in the world.” The channel will also add series, The Frank Dog, Baby Gaga, and Fingerlings.
AwesomenessX certainly makes for a nice counterpart to the female-centric programming it leaves behind at the main Awesomeness TV channel like View-like talk show for tweens, IMO, Make Me Over, and scripted show Runaways.
Though Awesomeness TV CEO Brian Robbins notes that “AwesomessX offers guys their own hangout, but just as guys will continue to be welcome at AwesomenessTV, AwesomenessX will attract some girls as well.”
But let’s look at the meat behind this move. With the recent spike in viewing of prank-related content on YouTube, coupled with the fact that over 54% of teens are on YouTube, branching out into a dedicated vertical for the prank-hungry viewers is a strong move for Awesomeness TV.
And if Dreamworks Animation is planning to utilize serially-successful-power-producer-turned-Awesomeness-TV-Founder Brian Robbins to build the next Nickleodeon-like network, honing in on the male and female audiences separately fits the bill. Not to mention Awesomeness TV will be able to more effectively target tween females vs tween males for the advertisers.
X certainly marks the (sweet) spot.
