Discovery Digital Networks Nabs Jeremy Azevedo from Machinima

Machinima‘s creative director of original programming, Jeremy Azevedo, has departed the company for a role as head of Discovery Digital Networks┬áLA, according to multiple industry sources.

Per the same sources, Azevedo will oversee Discovery Digital Networks’ LA production operations, as well as drive strategy and development for its various online properties, including YouTuber Phil DeFranco’s division, Phil DeFranco Networks and Merchandise, which also covers SourceFed and For Human Peoples. According to a source familiar with the hire, the role is newly formed and does not cover Revision3 or TestTube, which are run out of the company’s San Francisco offices.

The appointment comes only three months after Jim Louderback resigned from his position as GM of Discovery Digital Networks and CEO of Revision3. He was succeeded by Colin Decker.

At Machinima, Azevedo spent nearly five years overseeing entertainment productions for the YouTube network. There, he was largely responsible for “all topical, gaming, and scripted live action and animated content from licensed content (‘Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome,’ ‘Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist,’ etc.) to originals (‘Battlefield Friends,’ ‘Super Power Beatdown,’ etc.),” according to his LinkedIn. He also developed Machinima’s top entertainment news show “ETC” and created the gaming company’s “Happy Hour” animation brand, according to one Machinima executive.
