Greg Siegel Jumps from Defy Media to Legendary Entertainment
Defy Media executive Greg Siegel is taking a high-level digital position at Legendary Entertainment, according to multiple sources familiar with the plans.
VideoInk has learned that Siegel will be tasked with heading up development and production of digital content at Legendary Digital Media, a division within Legendary Entertainment. Though unconfirmed by our sources, he will likely report to Thomas Lesinski, president of digital content and distribution, who joined Legendary last September.
Siegel came to Defy Media as part of the 2013 merger between Break Media and Alloy Digital. At Break Media, which he joined in 2011, he was SVP of entertainment development, responsible for the company’s entertainment partnerships and film and television initiatives. This includes the Prototype program, a short-film contest designed to give one winning filmmaker a feature-film development deal with New Regency Productions.
Prior to Break Media, Siegel spent over a decade at Endeavor Agency, before it became William Morris Endeavor. There, Siegel repped clients such as Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher, and Michael Chiklis. Though, within our new-media sector, Siegel was also responsible for launching Endeavor’s New Media division in 1996, overseeing web strategy and deals for various studios, networks, and brands.
Legendary Entertainment, the studio behind blockbuster hits such as “The Dark Knight” and “The Hangover” trilogies, is said to be expanding heavily into digital. The company recently inked a deal with Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films to produce content for digital and television platforms.
Meanwhile, this is the second high-profile executive to leave Defy Media in the past couple of weeks. Jordan Levin recently took an EVP role at Xbox Entertainment Studios.
