Hulu Picks Up Long-Form Series from Freddie Wong and Lionsgate

/ Jan 21, 2015

Freddie Wong does it again — this time with Hulu, which has picked up the YouTube star’s first long-form series for distribution exclusively off YouTube, where he has seen a tidal wave of success around YouTube action comedy series, “Video Game High School”.

VGHS S3 - Director Freddie Wong 2Currently untitled, Lionsgate Television and Wong’s production company Rocket Jump have developed a behind the scenes semi-scripted format that will chronicle the production of the star’s effects-laden short-form video content. Eight half-hour episodes are set to be released weekly on Hulu.

This would mark the first project to come as a result of the previously announced development deal Wong has with Lionsgate. The format is the third Hulu has picked up from Lionsgate Television (“Deadbeat” and “Casual” being the other two).

“We are so excited to bring Rocket Jump and their incredible fan following to Hulu. With so many great content creators in the media landscape today and so many new platforms to find them on — from film, to television, to YouTube — Freddie Wong and the Rocket Jump team undoubtedly bring their own brand of creativity and a new wave of talent to Hulu,” Hulu said in a blog post.

To date, Hulu Originals production slate has included over a dozen projects including “East Los High,” “The Wrong Mans,” “Casual,” “Difficult People,” and “11/22/63.”

A premiere date and title for the new series have yet to be confirmed. On YouTube, Wong is represented by Collective Digital Studio.

What a wasted opportunity… instead of next level VGHS we get Freddie’s second channel in half hour installments.

    • The new series hasn’t been announced yet, it could very well (and hopefully) be more VGHS.
