Big Frame Co-President Larry Shapiro Exits AwesomenessTV-Owned Talent Firm

/ Mar 30, 2015

Big Frame co-president Larry Shapiro is leaving the AwesomenessTV-owned talent management firm, VideoInk has learned from two sources familiar with the situation.

The move comes nearly six months after Big Frame and AwesomenessTV poached Shapiro from rival giant YouTube network Fullscreen, where he had served as head of talent management for close to two years.

As co-president of Big Frame, Shapiro was tasked with working alongside the firm’s co-founder Sarah Penna to sign new digital stars as well as develop business projects for the agency’s talent pool. Most recently, Shapiro helped broker a deal between AwesomenessTV and Film 360 to produce the 2013 Black List script “Shovel Buddies.”

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for AwesomenessTV confirmed Shapiro’s departure, and said the executive made the decision to leave in order to “return to his roots as a producer.” “In addition to ‘Shovel Buddies,’ which AwesomenessTV and Film 360 just announced, Larry Shapiro has three other projects outside of Big Frame that he will be announcing soon: two are for TV and one film. The timing was right for him to return to his roots as a producer, focusing on packaging and developing. AwesomenessTV supports him in this decision and looks forward to working with him as a producer.”

When Shapiro moved to Big Frame, he had also brought over two members from his team at Fullscreen, Andrew Graham and Rana Zand. According to sources, Graham and Zand will remain with Big Frame.

Big Frame was acquired by AwesomenessTV last year for $15 million. Since then, the company has become the talent-management arm of AwesomenessTV, which has built a multi-faceted business that includes its YouTube network, talent management, feature film and TV development and production, and merchandising.

Prior to Big Frame and Fullscreen, Shapiro was EVP of business development at Fourth Wall Studios. He has also served as an agent at CAA.
