Max Benator Lands First Look Deal with Discovery’s Revision3
Revision3, a Discovery Digital Video Network, has inked a first look development deal with former #waywire Executive Producer and online video vet Max Benator, through Benator’s digital entertainment company, Mirus Content Works.
Under the terms of the deal, Benator will develop talent, channels and programming for Revision3’s online video networks and serve as Executive Producer across shows he develops through Revision3.
This development deal has big implications for the burgeoning online video industry and signals the large shift we’ve already been seeing in the made-for-web space. As the lines between online video programming and “Hollywood” programming continue to blur, we think we’ll start seeing a lot more “first look” deals.
Discovery’s 2012 $35 million acquisition of Revision3 already showed that big networks were serious about online video coupled with the recent deals between Fox and the Wigs channel also point to this shift.
“We’re extremely excited to be working with Max. He’s an experienced and talented producer with the connections and creative contacts to help us continue to grow our content business,” says Ryan Vance, SVP, Programming & Development for Revision3.
The feelings are mutual. The relationship between Revision3 and Benator has been continuous, even as Benator called New York home to work with Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s #waywire video network.
“I’ve known the Rev3 guys for a while,” says Benator, “And we started chatting about how we could work together. In short order we came up with this first look deal. A big credit to Ryan [Vance] and the Rev3 team for working to make this happen as quickly as it did.”
Benator has already begun working in the San Fransisco-based company’s Los Angeles offices. Right now, it’s just him on the frontlines of Hollywood, but that probably won’t be for long. He has big plans.
“Looking forward to developing some big shows, launching new channels and working with all kinds of on-camera and behind the camera talent in partnership with Rev3. It’s an exciting time!”Tags: development, discovery, first look deal, programming, revision3
