Blip’s presentation today in Tribeca consisted of announcement after announcement, but their biggest news was saved for last: a new funding partnership with top  YouTuber Ray William Johnson.

Johnson has been a free agent since October when he left Maker Studios over contract disputes – and to this day, has yet to regain control of his Adsense account. Following his departure, Johnson launched his own production company Runaway Planet, and apparently, fielded various offers from interested digital parties.

With an infusion of cash from Blip, Johnson fans will get a new original series for the web which will air in the coming months. It is unclear if Blip and Runaway Planet will launch their own production company or if the programming will be produced through Runaway Planet.

Signing on Johnson is a big get for Blip as Johnson is the 3rd most popular YouTuber with more than 8.5M subscribers, an established leader in the space and a huge driver of  traffic.  The Blip talent family includes the video game entertainment giant Rooster Teeth and comedian Grace Helbig.

Blip CEO Kelly Day was unable to comment on any specifics but did mention information about the deal will be released soon.  The partnership with Blip comes on the heels of Johnson’s tweet that the lawsuit with Maker Studios over his lack of ownership of his own Adsense account is about to begin.
