WIGS Gives Julia Stiles-Starring ‘Blue’ a Third Season

/ Sep 4, 2013

WIGS, the scripted drama channel on YouTube from filmmakers Rodrigo Garcia (“Albert Nobbs,” “In Treatment”) and Jon Avnet (“Fried Green Tomatoes”), has picked up “Blue” for a third season.

Starring Julia Stiles (“The Bourne Ultimatum”), the drama series follows a single mother who tries to protect her son from the fact that she is a professional escort. In the third season, Stiles’ character, also named Blue, will find “herself getting a little too close with a client.” Meanwhile her son, played by Uriah Shelton (“The Glades”), will try to keep a “life-changing” secret of his own from his mother.

The third season will also star Eric Stoltz (“Pulp Fiction”) as Blue’s love interest and Stiles’ real-life sister Jane O’Hara (“Law & Order”) as Blue’s sister. Other new cast members include Daren Kagasoff (“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) and Alexz Johnson (“Instant Star”).

Laura Spencer, who has starred in the Emmy-winning “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” and fellow WIGS series “Jan” and “Vanessa and Jan,” will also appear during the third season.

Kathleen Quinlan (“Apollo 13”), Carla Gallo (“Bones”), and James Morrison (“Revenge”) round out the cast as all three have agreed to reprise their roles from previous seasons.

Over the course of two seasons on YouTube, “Blue” has amassed more than 26 million views. In June, the first two seasons of “Blue” were also made available on Hulu, the result of a programming, marketing, and distribution deal WIGS signed with Fox Broadcasting in February.

The show is written by Garcia and Karen Graci, and is directed by Garcia. It’s the first WIGS-produced series to receive a third season. No word yet on how many episodes are planned.
