Big Frame’s ‘Writing Room’ + Dave Days Try for Next Big Music Hit
Big Frame, a YouTube multi-channel network and talent management firm based out of LA, is giving its roster of YouTube stars another monetization stream with the launch of a new web series called “Writing Room.”
Launched today, the music series pairs 10 YouTube stars with 10 mainstream producers, like Brian Malouf who worked on Michael Jackson’s “Bad,” to create and release an original song. Hosted by YouTube musician Dave Days, the show will feature Big Frame talent like AlexG, SimpleSpoons, Chris Thompson, Meghan Tonjes, Nikki Phillipi, Jake Broido, Rachel Talbott, Lana Mckissack and Sean Malone.
Produced, shot and edited from YouTube Space LA, “Writing Room” will air every Thursday on the Bad Planet channel. Spanning 10 episodes, each one will document the entire songwriting process, culminating in the release of a final track and official music video.
Each track will be individually available for purchase on Google Play, Amazon and Topsin, among other digital download services, for $0.99.
Big Frame will also release an album featuring all 10 tracks from the show for $8.99.
We’ve reached out to Big Frame for comment on what kind of cut the YouTube stars will get for each song and album sale.
In any case, this looks to be a solid deal for Big Frame and the talent it represents. AlexG, who appears in the first episode, currently has more than 500,000 subscribers. It’s not hard to see some of that fan base deciding to drop a buck for a well-produced, original song from her.
Though, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the elephant in the room: iTunes. The lack of a distribution deal with the Apple storefront could limit potential sales and revenue.Tags: alexg, Bad Planet, music, musicians, Rachel Talbott, youtube, youtube artists, YouTube musicians
