Freddie Wong, Dan Harmon to Headline Content Industry Connect LA
Dan Harmon, the creator of “Community,” and Freddie Wong, the creator of “Video Game High School,” will headline the Content Industry Connect LA industry confab this March 25 at the London West Hollywood. Both creators will hold “master classes” for the event’s attendees.
Harmon’s session will feature star of “Community” Joel McHale along with Yahoo’s head of programming, Ian Moffitt, and a Sony rep to talk about moving the show from TV to Yahoo. After the show spent five seasons on NBC, “Community” producer Sony Pictures Television struck a midnight-hour deal with Yahoo last June to bring a sixth season to the digital media company’s video hub, Yahoo Screen. The season is set to premiere on March 17, a week before Content Industry Connect LA.
Meanwhile, Peter Levin, the head of investments at Lionsgate, will join Wong’s master class to talk about the studio’s partnership with the YouTuber’s digital studio, RocketJump. In January, Lionsgate sold a long-form series featuring Wong to Hulu. It will be Wong’s first series that will be distributed exclusively off YouTube. Hulu’s head of originals, Beatrice Springborn, will also join the session to discuss the development and distribution of the series.
Content Industry Connect LA is presented by the Banff World Media Festival. The goal, as is the case with events such as these, is to “get deals done,” according to Robert Montgomery, CEO of Achilles Media, which organizes and produces Banff and Content Industry Connect LA. Attendees will include producers, broadcasters, distributors, filmmakers, and various industry execs. Other big speakers at the conference will be announced within the next few days.
Achilles is also announcing that web video veteran Amber J. Lawson is joining the company as an executive director based in Los Angeles. She will play a key role in the evolution of Connect LA as well as the Banff World Media Festival, Montgomery said.Tags: banff world media festival, Community, connect La 2015, Dan Harmon, Freddie Wong, Hulu, industry content connect la, joel mchale, lionsgate, Rocket Jump, RocketJump, sony, Yahoo!
