Vevo and Kids at Play Bring Back ‘Super Fan Showdown’
A game show format hosted by YouTube star Justin James Hughes, “Super Fan Showdown” pits two fans of the same music artist against each other to see who’s the bigger super-fan. Season one of the short-form series featured fans of Maroon 5, Iggy Azalea, 5 Seconds of Summer, and more. Season two will feature fans of Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor, Nicki Minaj, and Enrique Iglesias, starting with Rihanna in the first episode.
“In this day and age of ‘Beliebers,’ ‘Little Monsters,’ ‘Katy-Kats,’ and ‘Swifties,’ fans have a voice and can interact with their favorite artists. And so many of them are crazy and fun so we thought why not put them head to head in a competition show,” said Jason Berger, founder of Kids at Play. “Vevo is the place where fans can keep up and have a dialogue with their favorite artists so we immediately thought that this was the perfect home for a show like this. We love working with our friends at Vevo and look forward to future collaborations.”
“Super Fan Showdown” is produced by Kids at Play and written and directed by Jonny Mais for Vevo. Executive producers include Kids at Play’s Jason Berger, Amy Laslett, and Mark Marraccini, and Vevo’s Jeremy Fader and Scott Reich.
The season two launch comes on the heels of Kids at Play’s deal with PBS Digital Studios to produce a new educational comedy series starring the Sklar brothers. It’s also the latest in a long line of web series the LA-based production company has produced for digital networks, with previous work going to the likes of AOL (“Anthony Eats America”), Yahoo (“Tiny Commando”), and Conde Nast Entertainment (“The Single Life”).
