5 Emerging Film Channels on YouTube

/ Feb 22, 2015

The Criterion Collection 2-22-15

With the Oscars coming up this evening, you might find yourself turning to YouTube to see the trailers of the nominees you missed this past year. There’s no question as to whether or not you’ll find them–any contemporary film you can think of shows up on YouTube in some way or another.

In fact, film studios and distributors from all over have learned to take advantage of the video platform for film promotion. As increasing numbers of people abandon cable TV for digital VOD and OTT services, it only makes sense that such companies would turn to the internet to showcase their latest releases and classic titles. Also, the internet is worldwide (well, almost–people in China might be seeing fewer global trailers), so studios are using the web (and YouTube’s subtitle tools) to overcome language barriers in spreading the word of their films. Several of these emerging channels target audiences in countries outside of North America.

So while you’re cruising YouTube this afternoon for a trailer of “American Sniper,” you might find yourself running across the following growing channels (found through Outrigger Media’s Emerging Talent Tracker tool)…depending on how sucked in you get to the whole trailer watching thing.

5. Empire Movies

  • SlateScore: 416
  • Total Subs: 6,879
  • Monthly Views: 860,670

3. Marvel FR
