Jc Caylen on His New Moves for InTour and His 2nd Life Online
Jc Caylen created YouTube videos of his own before joining up with friends Sam Pottorff, Ricky Dillon, Kian Lawley, Trevor Moran, and Connor Franta (who’s no longer officially part of the channel) to form Our2ndLife, a music channel/group on the digital video platform in which the teen YouTube sensations constantly collab.
Now, Caylen’s getting ready for a performance at this year’s InTour, set to take place on September 13, 2014 at the Pasadena Convention Center in California, between 11am and 5pm. Put together by Fullscreen (we also interviewed the company’s music talent manager, Daniel Rosen, about the event) and the creator of Warped Tour, Kevin Lyman, InTour will feature performances by other O2L member Dillon in addition to Franta, JennXPenn, Crawford Collins, and others.

How did you get into vlogging and YouTube initially?
I’ve always been into cameras, whether I was in front of or behind one. When I discovered YouTube it was almost like a calling. Mitchell Davis was one of the first vloggers I ever watched, and when I saw his videos I was inspired and thought, “Hey, I can do this!”
Could you tell us the story of Our2ndLife’s formation? How did you get involved and how was the idea born in general?
Well, first off, I’d like to take credit for the idea. Collab channels have been around for a while. O2L is a bit different, though. We were friends way before O2L formed so when the idea arose it just clicked perfectly.
How does creating content as a group differ for you from creating videos by yourself? What are the pros and cons of each?
If I’m making a video with all of the boys, it feels easier and definitely more fun. As for filming by myself, it’s great that I can repeat a segment if I didn’t say it right the first time and am able to think out the next step in peace.
InTour’s now fast approaching. As a creator who became popular via digital, what’s the value in events such as InTour and VidCon?
The value to these events is definitely meeting the viewers. There’s just something about meeting and seeing all of those fans light up when they see you, it really makes me feel loved. In addition, it’s great to meet new people/creators, and it’s just an overall good time.
I hear you’ll be debuting some new hip hop/breakdance moves at InTour. Could you tell us a little more about that and what else we should expect at the event?
InTour’s going to be absolutely wild. Unlike other tours, we have set rehearsals, challenges and acts planned for all creators, including doing things that you might not expect, like me dancing. It’s my first time, but I’m ready to kill it and give it my all.Tags: 5Qs, 5Qs With..., Connor Franta, crawford collins, fullscreen, InTour, jc caylen, jennxpenn, kian lawley, mitchell davis, o2l, our2ndlife, ricky dillon, sam pottorff, trevor moran, youtube, YouTube Creators
