Many know her as the Host and brain behind the online talk show “What’s Trending” but those who have been in this industry long enough know that Shira Lazar is one of the most hard working, pioneering minds in the industry. Not only did she break into the business when people were still uploading to Quicktime but Shira has consistently been a staple figure in the online video space. Named a top woman in Tech to follow by Fast Company, mostly for her early-adopter tendancies and uber-tight network in the tech and online video space, there isn’t much Shira doesn’t do – hosts, produces, and books talent for What’s Trending, blogs for Entrepreneur and Huffington Post, oh! and be the face of digitally-driven live streams for major shows like The Oscars and The Emmy’s – yeah she does that too.

Shira also rocked the YouTube Brandcast as part of the 2013 #Newfronts.

Here’s big wisdom from Shira on how she manages her busy lifestyle and stays on top of this ever-booming industry.

1. What’s the most challenging part of your day-to-day and how to you recoop?

Talent booking can sometimes be a challenge. We have high standards and we’ve raised the bar high with some incredible guests on the show already so we’re always looking to continue to think big. When I do have time to breathe on the weekends I can be a hermit. Just hanging out a home, catching up on TV shows and movies. Also, biking around venice and getting a good mani pedi.

2. Flash forward a year, where do you project the online video industry stands by 2014?

There will be a lot of investments, acquisitions and partnerships between traditional media and YouTube/new media brands  this year. We will continue to see a bigger shift in advertising money and legitimate views/community being formed around new properties for the next generation.

3. What’s your online video utopia? Your ideal vision of what the online video industry would look like?

Content experiences should be available on all screens from mobile, tablet to TV. I want to see new media brands like What’s Trending be just as big, relevant and valuable as the one’s we’ve all grown up with like CNN and MTV.

4. How do you stay up to date on what’s “trending” in the online video world?

It’s what we do and what we love so we’re always on top of what’s being shared from constantly checking out what people on our own social networks are sharing to jumping on YouTube Trend, Reddit and Buzzfeed.

5. If you could rewind time, what would you tell yourself five years ago?

Get on YouTube. Work hard, be confident and keep learning!
