Devin Supertramp’s Magic Touch of Fame on YouTube

Ear Biscuits Devin SuperTramp

Devin Suptertramp (real name: Devin Graham) not only launched his own career on YouTube, but he also revealed to Rhett & Link how he helped start the dream careers of others. He did this by never underestimating the value of collaborations, which he explained on this week’s “Ear Biscuits.”

For instance, Graham helped launch the dancing violinist (and former “Ear Biscuits” guest) Lindsey Stirling on the platform. Her first YouTube video, “Epic Violin Girl” (hint: always include “epic” in your title if you want people to click), actually appeared first on Graham’s channel. After having seen her on “America’s Got Talent,” Graham asked to make a deal wherein he filmed and featured her video on his YouTube base, and she would reap the iTunes sales of her song.

Now we know where that went for Stirling, but it’s the day leading up to this video that shows Graham’s emphasis on collaborations. He’d come to film with Stirling in the morning running on pure creative energy, having stayed up the entire night before filming a different group of musicians.

Graham later brought what he learned from working with Stirling during her early YouTube years to the Gardiner sisters, whom he also helped coach through their online beginnings. He gave them tips on monetization, one of the biggest being to “do covers,” as he filmed their work. (And, yes, romances resulted from both collaborations, but are no longer.)

Collaborations with Graham have resulted in careers outside of YouTube recognition, as well. Take the recent Assassin’s Creed parkour video that he filmed. For the video, he contacted a construction worker with a serious talent for parkour. Since Graham paid for the shooting of the video himself, the parkour enthusiast signed on for free, and because he didn’t have a YouTube channel of his own, he created one to feature the Assassin’s video. This got the guy about 80,000 subscribers in almost no time, and though he may not be embarking on a YouTube career of his own, he was still able to quit his construction job and work full-time doing stunt work ever since.

As Graham put it, “What’s so great about the YouTube community is everyone working together, building of each other’s strengths, and everyone benefits.” To get an even deeper account of how this works, tune into the most recent “Ear Biscuits with Rhett & Link.”
