‘Epic Meal Time’s Harley Morenstein Talks New TV Show & Old YouTube

DigitasLBi Interviews

While VideoInk caught up with “Epic Meal Time” creator Harley Morenstein, he discussed his show’s multi-platform presence, specifically the upcoming TV show and its adaption from YouTube series to TV audience. He also gave us the low-down on the energy of the EMT team and the opportunity to speak at the DigitasLBi Newfronts.

The “Epic Meal Time” TV show is slated to run for 16 episodes on FYI beginning in mid-June. The team will continue their online show and presence, said Morenstein, as their internet presence still serves as the foundation of their business. The difference in three-minute YouTube videos to full-scale TV episode productions will be monumental in unveiling the work put into “Epic Meal Time.” The audience will receive new transparency into the business and a grander scale including the process and efforts leading to the meal episodes. Harley explained, “We’ve definitely done an awesome job at implementing ‘Epic Meal Time’ and what makes EMT ‘EMT on the internet’ and bringing that to TV…There’s a lot more exposition. You’re getting a lot more of the thought process building up to the meals.”

The show is based in LA and still set on the premise that the show stars five Canadians living abroad. While the filming and creation of this show requires loads of time and effort, the EMT team remains focused on their Tuesday YouTube releases. They planned ahead in setting aside videos to post, but have still encountered obstacles along the way. These five guys living under one roof treat uploading the same way that some people treat exercising. It’s a lot for a small team, but they handle their multi-platform business with grace. Their newest venture, aside from the TV show, is a podcast on InstaRadio.

Morenstein was excited to speak at the DigitasLBi Newfront, recognizing a good opportunity and deciding to seize it. He succeeded in showing that EMT is goofy, unique and made with a lot of thought.
