The 5 Best Up-and-Coming Comedy Channels

/ Oct 19, 2013

ComedyIssure

Based on statistics that I made up just now, comedy makes up around 200% of the content seen on YouTube. Like some kind of exploding fireworks factory, comedy channels have rocketed through YouTube blazing a trail of parody rap songs, drunk vlogging, and skits about Pokemon.

And sure, you’ve got a Jenna Marbles here and a Smosh there, but what about the little guys who are grinding away every day on YouTube? Well, dear reader, VideoInk has got their back, too.

With that, we present the five best up-and-coming comedians on YouTube. They may not have the most subscribers or tons of views, but dammit do they have heart.

5. DavidSoComedy

Subscribers: 690,375

Okay, maybe David So isn’t necessarily an “up-and-coming” YouTube comedian, but he definitely deserves to be on a list of some kind. And since our “YouTubers who have adverbs for last names” list isn’t coming out until 2014, I guess this will have to do. So has been doing his thing since 2010 on his channel DavidSoMusic. However, it wasn’t until 2011 that the singer/funny man broke into the comedy game. His comedy channel is subversive (see his recent iPhone 5c video below) and insanely funny. Don’t sleep on this one.

4. Whatever

Subscribers: 758,676

What’s probably most shocking about YouTube channel Whatever is that it somehow grabbed the URL YouTube.com/Whatever. How in the hell did no one take that the second YouTube went live?

Whatever pretty much falls into the “see if girls will give us their numbers if we act crazy” territory — Whatever calls this a “social experiment.” Most of the time, channels like this fall into the sleazy category, but Whatever, while still coming off creepy sometimes, also has some really solid comedy bits sprinkled in. Check out Whatever’s prank that involves putting up umbrellas around tanning people. It’s pretty great and relatively harmless, which sort of makes up for the sleazy stuff that is roughly half of this channel. You take the good with the bad.

3. TheComputerNerd01

Subscribers: 1,178,430

TheComputerNerd01 is great for a couple of reasons, which I will list…..now:

1. TheComputerNerd01 is a YouTube user name that was 100% picked by a 13 year old, which based off the fact that this channel was launched in 2007 is probably true.

2. TheComputerNerd01 is the poor man’s Smosh. Let me say that there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, it makes this channel all the more charming.

3. Tying in this channel’s clearly razor-thin budget (see #2), TheComputerNerd01 has to rely on single-shot skits and insanity to make up for low production value. Think of it as Smosh before they become trillionaires.
