The VI-5: Most Influential Gamers on YouTube
Here’s the understatement of 2013: Gaming on YouTube is a big deal. Right now, quite possibly the biggest name in YouTube — PewDiePie — has built an empire pretty much on “Let’s Play” videos alone. Nearly every multi-channel network has some kind of gaming vertical, while most YouTubers, recognizing the rising trend, have made efforts to branch off and create game channels of their own.
The YouTube Gaming Renaissance is here (for better or for worse).
But gaming as a genre is strange in that it is unlike any other type of content on YouTube. If we look at YouTube like a big Venn diagram, most content more or less overlaps. But gaming channels, they occupy a strange space on YouTube. A space that requires a whole different level of audience interaction and engagement.
We could talk about who has the most subs or views all day long, but you, me, and everyone we know has seen that. Instead, we’ve decided to approach today’s list a little differently. Using stats gathered from Outrigger Media’s OpenSlate analytics platform, we’ve determined the top 5 “influencers” in YouTube gaming.
A lot of factors go into deciding gamers’ influence score, which is why this stat is so crucial to having a great channel. YouTube gamers must be able to promote action among their audiences. After the post a video via social media, influence is determined based on how well audiences respond. Are they sharing? Are the engaging? These are the questions that must best asked when deciding an influencer.
So without further ado, we give you the top 5 YouTube gaming channel with the most influence.
AntVenom is an interesting creator simply because he has tapped into the incredibly large and ever-growing Minecraft fan base. AntVenom doesn’t have a ton of followers on Twitter or enormous sub numbers the likes of PewDiePie or TobyGame. However, the YouTuber does have an incredible understanding of social media. This guy is posting on Twitter and Facebook CONSTANTLY. It’s why he’s up here on the list.
4. FaZe Clan
It’s no surprise that FaZe Clan has a 9.6 influence ranking according to OpenSlate, the YouTube channel is actually the product of an entire group (clan) of “Call of Duty” all-stars. Launched in 2010, the FaZe Clan channel also has branching channels for each individual clan member. When FaZe Clan posts, so does the entire clan who have their own set of followers. It’s a recipe for massive engagement on multiple levels.
It’s not particularly shocking that the gaming arm of YouTube creator Toby Turner is the 3rd biggest influencer on YouTube. The creator has 5 million plus subscribers on this channel alone. Turner also has a main channel, Tobuscus, which just recently hit 5 million subscribers as well. When this guy talks, arguably over 5 million (and counting) people listen.
