The Top 10 Emerging YouTube Channels of 2014

As we all know, YouTube is home to videos that span a variety of genres, from fashion and music to travel, science, and beyond. Now that 2014’s coming to an imminent close, Outrigger Media has sorted through the platform’s next biggest talents to show us the most promising in each of YouTube’s major content categories (thanks, as always, to Outrigger’s Emerging Talent Tracker tool).

Including beauty tutorials, live footage of conflict zones, and branded content from “sharing economy” company Airbnb, these growing talents on the video platform offer a wide variety of content for brands to find their perfect advertising niche. Cristin Jordan, the VP of social content at DigitasLBi, explained exactly why the following channels, as opposed to more established creators, are where brands might want to focus when it comes to advertising to kick off the new year.

“Smart, savvy brands are aligning with content creators on the upswing of their careers for a number of reasons,” she explained. One of those reasons is that they “command a vast audience and have powerful influence yet don’t necessarily come with the heavy price tag of established talent.” Furthermore, Jordan noted, “By working with emerging talent early on, brands can establish long-term partnerships that last throughout the length of their popularity.”

So, to all the brands looking to make some YouTube moves in 2015, they might want to get started by taking a look at the following emerging channels, which include a little bit of something for everyone…

10. Channon Rose

  • SlateScore: 472
  • Total Subs: 17,598
  • Monthly Views: 327,460
  • Category: Style

Shockingly inspirational videos about overcoming obstacles sit right next to the usual, female-driven beauty tutorials on this style-focused channel.

9. Airbnb

  • SlateScore: 501
  • Total Subs: 15,497
  • Monthly Views: 5,005,410
  • Category: Travel

At this point, it seems like most everyone is familiar with Airbnb, a “worldwide community of hosts and travelers” that represents the digital-based sharing economy that’s come to mark so many new businesses in 2014. It’s only natural that the company has a growing YouTube channel.

8. Bass Boost

  • SlateScore: 521
  • Total Subs: 126,763
  • Monthly Views: 4,847,220
  • Category: Music

This Finnish channel includes various “bass boosted” songs of the EDM variety, all with its signature bear “moving” to the beat at the center.

7. RuptlyTV

  • SlateScore: 535
  • Total Subs: 51,195
  • Monthly Views: 6,146,880
  • Category: News

Focusing on stories “widely ignored by mainstream media,” RuptlyTV, based in Berlin, features live video coverage of New Years celebrations and conflict zones alike alongside real-time viewer commentary.

6. Alltime Numbers

  • SlateScore: 553
  • Total Subs: 138,866
  • Monthly Views: 691,920
  • Category: Education

A new take on the video listicle, this channel provides all the figures you could ever want on a variety of topics ranging from porn to Pixar.

5. The Berrics

  • SlateScore: 582
  • Total Subs: 140,100
  • Monthly Views: 338,069
  • Category: Sports

A “new and improved” version of an older YouTube channel, this skating hub showcases various skaters doing what they do best–and talking about it in accompanying documentary style videos.

4. Mikey Murphy

  • SlateScore: 582
  • Total Subs: 202,999
  • Monthly Views: 1,004,670
  • Category: Vlogging

A decidedly average kid (his major hobbies include watching Netflix and eating Oreos), Mikey’s vlogging is also decidedly average, marked by numerous, quick cuts and even quicker talking (and a pretty boy face).

3. TestTube

  • SlateScore: 589
  • Total Subs: 204,555
  • Monthly Views: 2,703,420
  • Category: Science & Technology

Asking the biggest questions in the news with a unique attention to detail and compelling photos, TestTube provides stats and facts in its highly topical videos, like this one about the recently missing AirAsia flight:

2. GameMeneer

  • SlateScore: 598
  • Total Subs: 143,429
  • Monthly Views: 6,706,500
  • Category: Gaming

This German gamer covers the current must plays (think Minecraft, Pokemon, and even Sims 4) in the (what’s come to be) traditional style of “Let’s Players.”

1. Twaimz

  • SlateScore: 598
  • Total Subs: 302,086
  • Monthly Views: 1,584,300
  • Category: Entertainment

This vlogger’s claim to fame appears to be his penetrating fondness for llamas…so that’s nothing to scoff at, I guess. Twaimz participates in various challenges and Twitter Q&A’s in his myriad narrative videos.
