Since the last VidCon, what are the changes you’ve seen to the YouTube platform/community, if any, and do you feel those changes are for the better? 

Something I’ve noticed is how many more people are utilizing the YouTube Space. It’s an amazing resource – not only for creating, but also for meeting people. It reminds me of how YouTube was back in the day when the online community was less saturated and easier to connect with people. Now the same thing is happening but in person, which is way better than connecting through a screen.  There’s no catfishing in real life. Unless you have Mission: Impossible masks, in which case I’d probably respect you because I’ve always wanted to see someone pull that off.

Part of a successful channel is regularly uploading content, but if you had to choose only ONE video of your own that best defines you and your channel, which would it be?

Definitely the music video “What About Me?”  It’s a satirical song off my recent album about a pseudo-version of myself stepping on anyone I can to make it in the entertainment industry. A lot of people know me from my One Minute Mashups (60-second medleys based off a theme or artist), and this song has a fast pace much like those. I like blending comedy and tragedy and that song definitely covers the spectrum.

If you could trade places with another YouTuber for a day, who would it be and why?

Hmmm…who do I want to see naked…and who would I not mind seeing me naked…probably Schmoyoho or Nice Peter. They’re both awesome musicians with really high quality sound recordings and videos. I’d just want to pick their brains, hear about their process, see them naked, and learn more about music production.

What’s your favorite comment one of your videos has ever received? The weirdest?

Recently someone told me they really wanted to peel my forehead off. I also have a song that poses the question “What if the reason Scorpion and Sub-Zero hate each other is because they’re actually gay for one another and are suppressing all that sexual tension by trying to kill each other?”  That video gets A LOT of the typical “Gayyyyy” comments. It’s like, uh, YEA, it actually is.

Tell me something about the future of your channel. What’s something you haven’t done yet that you’d like to do? Whether it’s a collab with a certain person, a different kind of format, or something else!

I have a couple music videos planned off my album “Am I Doing This Right.”  Right now I’m taking a break from the One Minute Mashups, which is really refreshing. It’s allowing me to get some perspective and really think of some new one-offs and series I’d like to create.  When I renew the mashups this fall I’d love to collab with more YouTubers on them. That makes them less stale and keeps it fun. My main goal is keeping an even balance between original songs and stuff that has source material.  I always go back and forth between making monthly vs. weekly videos. For me, it’s not fun to just crank out videos because “that’s the model,” but at the same time you gotta play the game. I guess I’d rather make something I’m really proud of than a bunch of little scraps to feed the die-hards, but if I can think of a way to meld both worlds together and still be happy with the results, I’ll go for it.
