VidCon Voices: Cinema Sins

Since the last VidCon, what are the changes you’ve seen to the YouTube platform/community, if any, and do you feel those changes are for the better?

The biggest change we’ve noticed is related to the commenting system changes, and YouTube accounts being aligned with Google+. It completely changed the dynamic of the comments section, and largely ruined any chance of real discussion and dialogue with viewers in the comments. Prior to this change, we found great value in leaving and responding to comments throughout the day of a video launch… but now, the engagement is happening in other places and other ways.

Part of a successful channel is regularly uploading content, but if you had to choose only ONE video of your own that best defines you and your channel, which would it be?

Probably our recent Everything Wrong With Frozen video, because it speaks to how divisive our content has a tendency to be. When you make fun of any movie, no matter how bad you think it may be, it’s someone’s favorite movie… somewhere. It’s also a good underlining of our core motto: No movie is without sin… even ones that are “good” or almost universally loved.

If you could trade places with another YouTuber for a day, who would it be and why?

How-To Basic. Because who doesn’t want to smash eggs on stuff?!

What’s your favorite comment one of your videos has ever received? The weirdest?

It’s hard to pick a favorite. It’s always fun, we think, when fans of our content show up in the comments to remind us of previous jokes we’ve made in previous videos, or to respond to new viewers who are asking questions. The weirdest one is probably still the guy who keeps asking us to do the sins of The Passion of the Christ.

Tell me something about the future of your channel. What’s something you haven’t done yet that you’d like to do? Whether it’s a collab with a certain person, a different kind of format, or something else!

We have a few cool team-ups we’re working on, but most of our future “plans” involve branching out our brand. We have a music-themed channel in the works, a new channel charting sins of a different type of media, and some animated stuff we’re working on. Both Cinema Sins creators are also authors, with new works of fiction currently in the editing process. So… yeah, lots of big plans.

CinemaSins’ channel is a part of the Collective Digital Studio, and you can find more of their work here!
