YouTube’s New 3-Second Trailers: ‘Magnet Minute’ (Video)
This week on the “Magnet Minute,” I talk about a newly added feature on YouTube that helps companies control their brands across channels.
Consistency is a critical element of branding, and brands can suffer if their logos, tag lines, colors, etc., differ from one of its channels or platforms to the next.
This is often a problem with old YouTube videos.
For example, have you gone through your YouTube archives and rediscovered some great content, but you hesitate to use because it doesn’t match your updated branding? If you’re talking about dozens of videos, the process of re-editing each would be very time consuming.
With this new feature, that problem is now solved, as YouTube responded to user requests for inclusion of an easily implemented intro video before any and all existing videos. The new feature lets you add a three-second intro video to any videos on your channel.
While many users already place short intros on their videos, this new feature makes it easier to update existing material. It’s as easy as a one-time upload, after which you can select the videos you want to use with the new intro. And if that new intro eventually gets dated, you can remove it and replace it across whichever videos you choose.
This new feature also makes it easier to upload videos on the fly. If you’re recording a presentation and wanted to include your standard intro, you would normally have to take extra time to edit the intro into the video. Now you just upload the video onsite and the intro can be automatically added.
Google has stated that these intros cannot be used as ads, sponsorships, or product placements. Furthermore, the company wrote in its announcement that it does not recommend this feature be used by channels using videos as advertisements.
Watch this week’s “Magnet Minute” where I explain how to upload your intro video, as well as some of the many uses for the new tool. Tell us how you’re using this feature by posting in the comments section.
