Above Average Restarts ‘Thingstarter’ for Three More Episodes

/ Jan 15, 2014

Above Average is rolling out fresh episodes of one of its most popular web series, “Thingstarter,” beginning this week.

“Thingstarter” parodies Kickstarter videos in which “budding entrepreneurs make fundraising appeals for wildly misguided projects.” The first season, which spanned three episodes — including the breakout “Tiny Diapers for the Tip of Your Penis,” generated more than 800,000 views on YouTube.

Season two, which will also run for three episodes, begins today with the video below titled “Sustainable Kidnapping”:

“Sustainable Kidnapping,” about two very responsible kidnappers, has close ties to the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York, which has had a fruitful relationship with Above Average and parent company Broadway Video. You can see a lot of UCB performers in sketches produced by and for Above Average and its comedy network. “Sustainable Kidnapping” is no different, as it stars UCB comedians Brandon Gulya, Dan Chamberlain, and Will Hines, and was created and written by The Bilderbergers (Lucas Klauss, Matt Moskovciak, and Ben Stadler).

(This UCB-Above Average-Broadway Video dynamic goes all the way to the top, too, as Sasheer Zamata, a UCB comedian who has appeared in Above Average videos, was just hired by “Saturday Night Live.”)

New episodes of “Thingstarter” will post every Wednesday for the next three weeks. The series is produced for Above Average by Josh Poole.
