Al Jazeera Launches a Mobile-Only News Network
Al Jazeera is trying a new tactic to get news to the likes of “cord-nevers.” Instead of launching on broadcast television, or even the internet, the news organization is bringing its newest news network, AJ+, to app stores only, according to a report by GigaOm.
Available starting September 15, AJ+ features interactive elements like quizzes, comment sections, and polls in addition to news clips that range in length, covering topics like ISIS and police brutality.
AJ+ sections these topics into “stacks of cards” that make up a larger stream, allowing viewers to flip quickly through different news segments.
With its soft-launch having occurred this past June, AJ+ has already proven popular. According to the report, it gained approximately 7 million views since. Here’s a preview of the app:
