Amazon Nabs Exclusive US Rights to Rob Delaney’s ‘Catastrophe’
Amazon has acquired exclusive rights to stream the UK comedy series “Catastrophe” on its Prime Instant Video service in the US.
Created and written by Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan, “Catastrophe” is a half-hour comedy about an Irish woman and American man struggling to start a relationship after their initial tryst leads to a pregnancy. The show is already a critical favorite in the UK, where it airs on Channel 4 and has been renewed for a second season.
In the US, it will be presented as an Amazon “original series” — similar to how rival Netflix exclusively streams US-based TV shows in other territories as Netflix originals. The series will arrive on Amazon Prime Instant Video in the US this spring, and in the UK later this year.
“Catastrophe” is an Avalon Television production with co-producers Birdbath Productions and Merman. It’s produced by Jack Bayles and directed by Ben Taylor along with executive producers Richard Allen-Turner, Kara Baker, Delaney, Horgan, and Jon Thoday.Tags: Amazon, Amazon Originals, Amazon Prime Instant Video, Amazon Studios, Avalon Television, Birdbath Productions, Channel 4, Merman, Rob Delaney, Sharon Horgan, UK
