Amazon to Debut ‘Transparent’ in September
Amazon Studios announced the premiere date for one of its newest original series “Transparent.” Unlike other originals Amazon has released to date, the debut of “Transparent” will also be notable for the way it will be released — all at once, just like how Netflix does.
Created and written by Jill Soloway of “Six Feet Under” and starring Jeffrey Tambor of “Arrested Development,” the show will be available in the US and UK on September 26.
Described as a dark comedy, the series follows an LA family who deals with the transitioning of its patriarch, Tambor, from a man to a woman. Each of the series’ 10 episode runs for half an hour, together forming more of a long film than a set of individual episodes (hence the binge-watching style of its release).
Other “Transparent” stars include Gaby Hoffmann, Judith Light, Amy Landecker, and Jay Duplass. Carrie Brownstein, Bradley Whitford, Melora Hardin, Alexandra Billings, and Rob Huebel will guest star.
The first episode of “Transparent” is already available for Amazon Prime members, who can watch through the Prime Instant Video apps on Amazon Fire products, iOS, Roku, Xbox, Playstation, and other connected products. This gives Prime members the opportunity to get hooked before the entire season premieres in September.
In addition to writing “Transparent,” Soloway also directed and executive produced the Amazon original series.Tags: Amazon, amazon original series, amazon prime, amy landecker, gaby hoffmann, jay duplass, Jeffrey Tambor, Jill Soloway, judith light, transparent
