Amazon Sets UK Debut for ‘Ripper Street’ Season 3
Amazon, which revived the critically-acclaimed BBC crime drama “Ripper Street” for a third season earlier this year, said it will debut the show on Amazon Instant Video in the UK in mid-November.
The UK online premiere will come a year before the season debuts on TV in the UK and the US. With BBC still being involved with production of the show, the company has on-air broadcast rights to the program in both countries. In the US, season three will air on BBC America in 2015; in the UK, it will air on BBC One.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are no plans as of now to make the third season available online in the US.
Set in late-1880s London, shortly after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders, the period drama follows the detectives and policemen who investigated that crime spree and other murders after that. The show is created by Richard Warlow and stars Matthew Macfadyen (“Pride & Prejudice”), Jerome Flynn (“Game of Thrones”), and Adam Rothenberg.
The third season, which will span eight episodes, was produced by Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point. BBC Worldwide is handling international distribution.Tags: Amazon, Amazon Instant VIdeo, amazon prime, Amazon UK, BBC, BBC America, BBC Worldwide, Lookout Point, Ripper Street, Tiger Aspect Productions
