Amazon Studios to Shoot All Originals in 4K Ultra HD

/ Dec 16, 2013

Don’t say web-original programming can’t look as good as or better than TV: Amazon Studios plans to shoot all of its 2014 original series, including comedies and dramas, in 4K Ultra HD. What does that mean? The content, which to be fair is just television originating on a non-linear platform, will have four times the number of pixels as standard HD, and as a result will offer a much sharper image.

Earlier this year, Amazon Studios announced that it will debut five new comedy and drama pilots in 2014, including “The After,” from “X-Files” creator Chris Carter; “Mozart in the Jungle,” from the writing trio of Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman, and Alex Timbers; and “Transparent” from Emmy-nominated TV producer Jill Solloway (“Six Feet Under”).

If any of these shows get a full-season order from Amazon Studios, those episodes will be shot in 4K Ultra HD, as well as any other shows the company gives pilot orders to in 2014.

For those of you who are not familiar with 4K TVs, Amazon has published a 4K Ultra HDTV Guide, which offers all sorts of information on the product and how it compares to the HDTVs you’ve been used to. And if interested, users can also access and purchase Amazon’s selection of the latest 4K TV models and compatible set-tops and Blu-ray players. Synergy!
