AmEx-Sponsored Docu-Film to Stream on Young Turks’ YouTube and Hulu Channels
“Spent: Looking for Change,” an American Express-sponsored documentary film about Americans struggling outside of the country’s traditional financial system, will be distributed by The Young Turks on Hulu and YouTube beginning June 4.
Narrated by filmmaker Tyler Perry, “Spent” follows the lives of four American families wrestling with financial hardships. The film aims to spotlight an issue that impacts one in four US households, which are not well served by the traditional banking system and instead have to rely on services such as check cashers, payday lenders, and pawn shops to fulfill basic financial needs. These costs add up and force poor households to spend 10% of their income on financial fees.
The documentary will go live on July 4 at 7pm ET on The Young Turks’ YouTube and Hulu channels. TYT’s flagship news program, “The Young Turks,” which also streams on the network’s main YouTube channel, generates more than 38 million views per month.
The film is executive produced by Davis Guggenheim (“Waiting for Superman,” “An Inconvenient Truth”) and directed by Derek Doneen.
