AOL Announces Casting Call to Find a Host for an Upcoming Sports Show

/ Nov 14, 2014

AOL is holding auditions to find a host for an upcoming sports show.

While vague with the details, AOL said this new “sports venture will bring innovative programming to users in an engaging format, as well as dynamically curated video from users across the country” — but first it needs a sportscaster.

“Great content starts with great talent,” said Dermot McCormack, president of video and AOL Studios, in a statement. “We want to start by sourcing the best new creators from emerging platforms and partner with one of them to develop a new, differentiated sports show.”

To audition, users can either submit a 6-60 second video via Vine, Twitter, or Instagram using the #AOLSportsSearch hashtag, or show up to live auditions the company is holding in New York and Los Angeles on Monday, November 17. Prospective hosts should stand out from the pack and are encouraged to think outside the box, while also being knowledgeable about sports, the company said.

AOL will accept submissions on social media until noon on November 17. For those electing to go to the live casting calls, AOL will run auditions from 9am to 12pm in New York, and 6am to 9pm in Los Angeles.

All submissions will be evaluated by the AOL sports production team and AOL users. Auditions will be promoted on and the company’s social channels, and will stream on the AOL Sports channel.

By Tuesday, November 18, AOL will narrow the list down to eight finalists, who will compete in a series of sports challenges at AOL’s New York studios. This group will then be narrowed down to two finalists, with the winner being announced on Wednesday, November 19.
