AOL Bags Production, Distribution Deal with Derek Jeter’s Players’ Tribune
AOL has inked a production and distribution deal with The Players’ Tribune, a digital media company founded by Legendary Entertainment and former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter to give athletes a forum to provide first-person insights into their lives and careers.
Since its launch in early October, The Players’ Tribune has largely published columns penned by star athletes — from Russell Wilson to Kevin Love — on topics that concern them the most. Video was always a part of the company’s content strategy, and now with the AOL deal, it will begin to take shape.
Per the deal, AOL will co-produce exclusive content, which will be distributed on The Players’ Tribune and across AOL properties. Other Players’ Tribune content will also be syndicated to AOL.com and its network of sites.
Beyond online content, the two companies will partner on various live sporting events throughout the year.
For AOL, the deal also represents a larger focus on sports content. The company is also developing a live online sports show, which it hopes to launch in the coming weeks.Tags: AOL, Derek Jeter, Legendary Entertainment, The Players' Tribune
