AOL Forms Global Video Division with Ran Harnevo at the Helm
Ran Harnevo has been named president of AOL Video, a newly formed global division at the digital media company.
Formerly the SVP of video at AOL, which has seen its online video stock rise in recent months, Harnevo will now oversee the company’s global video strategy. Per an AOL spokesperson, Harnevo will work with Graham Moysey, head of international at AOL, to strategize the company’s video business, and will be responsible for both the AOL On distribution network and Be On, the company’s branded entertainment business.
Harnevo joined AOL in 2010 when the company acquired his syndication company, 5min Media. During his time as SVP of video, Harnevo helped launch the AOL On network, the umbrella brand for AOL’s video offerings spanning originals and third-party content. The AOL On network currently houses more than 700,000 videos, syndicating to a network of over 1,700 partners including Time, Discovery, and Gannett.
Harnevo was also instrumental in AOL’s recent acquisition of Adap.tv for a cool $405 million. That deal was largely responsible for pushing AOL past Google/YouTube in comScore’s most recent video ad rankings.
With Harnevo now serving as president of AOL Video, Gabriel Lewis has been named the head of AOL On Originals, in addition to his current responsibilities as head of AOL Studios.
Even with this reorganization, AOL’s other big video property, HuffPost Live, which Lewis helped launch, will continue to stay separate.
