AOL Holding Auditions in NY for “AOL Live”

/ Jun 27, 2013

AOL plans to debut “AOL Live,” a daily live-streaming service later this summer.

To get started, the company is holding auditions in New York today and tomorrow to find “the most talented and passionate news, sports, weather, entertainment, and Internet-y storytellers in the world.” Auditions run from 5am to 10am on each day at the company’s headquarters in Manhattan (770 Broadway).

AOL also plans to stream some of the auditions on The newly launched “Live” page on the site will host a live stream between 6am and 10am. AOL says it’s doing this because it plans to solicit viewer opinions in deciding which future anchors it will choose for “AOL Live.”

The auditions are open to anyone, though AOL does have some recommendations and restrictions, which you can read on the company’s blog or right here:

Want to stand out and make a huge impact? Here’s the trick:

  • Dress for success: We want people to be stylish, interesting, and appealing. We want sports people to be sporty, music fans to sing, business types who can show us the money, weather people to be warm and sunny. If you are into the world of marketing, get pumped to read ad copy. You get the idea.

  • Bring Passion: We only hire passionate people who love what they do. If you are passionate about news, prove it.

  • Stand out: We aren’t going to tell you how. You know what to do. Can you prove that you are better than any anchor on TV today?

Here are the details:

  • Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28

  • 5AM Casting Call opens

  • 10AM Casting Call closes

  • Props encouraged!

  • Please bring a headshot and resume

  • AOL viewers will help decide if you make it as our next AOL Live anchor!

  • *Please note: must be 18 and older to try out.

There is a note on the video player on the “AOL Live” page that reads: “We’re on weekdays 6am – 10am.” It’s not clear yet if “AOL Live” will air during the same four-hour black whenever it launches later this summer, or what its relationship will be with AOL’s other live-news property, “HuffPost Live.” I’ve reached out to AOL for additional information and will update accordingly.
