AOL, NY Times, and Ora TV Scoop Up News & Documentary Emmy Noms

/ Jul 16, 2014

winners of the international digital emmys have been announced!

Nominees for the 35th annual News & Documentary were announced by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences this week, and among the digital set, they include The New York Times, AOL, and Ora TV.

The New York Times grabbed a total of seven nominations, including one in Best Documentary for its multimedia feature “A Game of Shark and Minnow,” and another in New Approaches for “Gun Country.” The company’s online video programs “Retro Report” (Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story in a News Magazine), and “Making a Scene” and “Modern Love” (New Approaches: Arts, Lifestyle, and Culture), were also recognized.

Among other digital outlets, Larry King and Ora.TV scored a nomination for “Larry King Now,” which will compete in the Outstanding News Discussion and Analysis category. The only digital show in that category, “Larry King Now” earned the nomination for an episode centering on the issue of head trauma in the NFL.

AOL, meanwhile, will be competing against The Times’ in the New Approaches: Arts, Lifestyle, and Culture category. The company’s “The Future Starts Here,” which was created and produced by filmmaker and Webby Awards founder Tiffany Shlain, explores what it means to be human in an increasingly “connected” world. AOL renewed the show for a second season earlier this year. It’s the company’s second Emmy nomination this year, following one for the Steve Buscemi-hosted “Park Bench” at the Primetime Emmys.

Winners will be announced during a ceremony in New York City on September 30.
