AOL Partners with Roku to Premiere Its First Long-Form Series, ‘Connected’

/ Mar 23, 2015

AOL has decided that it wants to play its first long-form series on the biggest screen in the house. The company plans to debut the first episode of the Morgan Spurlock-produced “Connected” on Roku devices one week ahead of its “multi-platform” series premiere.

Starting on Tuesday, March 24, Roku users in the US will be able to access the “Connected” pilot via the free AOL On app. The series is set to premiere across AOL On platforms on March 31 with the first four episodes of the season. The remaining 16 will be distributed in four-episode batches every other week through May 25.

“We are committed to a content delivery strategy that aligns with the way consumers are viewing content, which is, more and more, on connected, over-the-top devices and screens of all sizes,” said Robert Delacruz, VP & GM of consumer video experiences, at AOL, in a statement. “We have already seen a more than 165 percent growth in AOL video views across over-the-top devices compared to last year at this time.”

Adapted from an Israeli docu-reality series, “Connected” follows the personal stories of six New Yorkers who personally recorded their day-to-day lives over the course of six months. The series is produced by Spurlock’s Warrior Poets and Koda Communications (producer of the original series), with Spurlock, Koda’s Ram Landes, and AOL’s Dermot McCormack executive producing.
