Artios Awards Adds New Category Honoring Web Series
The Casting Society of America just announced the nominees of its newest Artios Awards category, web series. For the 30 annual awards ceremony, the CSA released the names of five web series that will be considered for the win in their particularly digital grouping.
The web series nominees include:
- “Aim High (Season 2),” Matthew Lessall
- “Backpackers,” Stephanie Gorin
- “Chosen (Seasons 2 & 3),” Josh Einsohn
- “Deadbeat,” Adam Caldwell, Cindy Tolan
- “Mortal Kombat: Legacy (Season 2),” Matthew Lessall
The 30 Annual Artios Awards includes a couple of other (predictable) web-based series among its nominees, but they’re not referred to as such. Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” made it into both the television pilot comedy and television series comedy categories, while “House of Cards” stands in the running for best television series drama. This isn’t the first time the two Netflix original series have been treated as television shows — they were (rightfully) nominated as such by the Emmys, among other industry awards shows.
Taking place on January 22, 2015, the Artios Awards will take place on both coasts, with ceremonies at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and at 42West in New York City. This marks a departure from the awards’ usual date in November.
Final ballot voting for most categories, including web series, closes at 5pm PT on Monday, September 29.Tags: 30th annual artios awards, Aim High, artios awards, Backpackers, casting society of america, Chosen, Deadbeat, house of cards, Mortal Kombat, Netflix, Orange Is the New Black, web series
