Vessel Takes a ‘Love Ride’ via Exclusive Deal with Comedy Programmer Above Average

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Vessel has secured itself a sweet deal with Above Average for an exclusive release of new episodes of Alec Baldwin’s hilarious unscripted series, Love Ride, for the duration of 2015, according to reps at Above Average and Vessel. The first two episodes of Love Ride, like the one below which debuted in Fall of 2014 on Above Average’s own site and YouTube channel, were among those announced as part of Vessel’s consumer beta launch a few weeks back. A new episode is already live on the Vessel platform.

On the surface level one might write this off as any other content deal but the early deals Vessel announces set the stage around how the platform will be used. And this deal puts a kibosh on the skepticism that has been echoing behind closed doors about whether Vessel’s 72-hour window is meaningful enough to move the needle. What those skeptics overlooked is that Vessel is simply asking a minimum window of 72 hours and, as with this deal, the window could be quite extensive.

Vessel is towing an interesting line, short windows from big YouTube talent like EpicMealTime, Boyce Avenue and Ingrid Nilsen that will help drive user acquisition and premium programming like Love Ride, which might not pull gangbuster numbers  (over 200K views on YouTube since November 2014) but elevate the quality of programming on the platform.

In the short form video category, Vessel is looking a lot more like Hulu with a YouTuber-friendly twist that can hopefully work in raising the IP-value boat for all premium content creators.
