Barcroft Media to Produce Six Documentaries for Digital, Then TV
UK-based producer Barcroft Media is financing and producing six, long-form documentaries for its digital channels, with the hopes of eventually expanding them to TV.
Each documentary will run for 30 minutes, beginning with “Shark Fishing” and “1-800 Autopsy.” All six will focus on the most bizarre and intriguing pockets of human existence, according to the company.
Initially, the documentaries will premiere on Barcroft’s YouTube channel and website, Barcroft TV, under a section called “Original Docs.” Eventually, it also hopes to make the projects available for TV networks.
This would follow the model Barcroft employed for “The Grandmother Lovers,” a documentary about younger men who date (much) older women. The UK’s Channel 5 recently commissioned this documentary from Barcroft based on the original version available on the company’s digital channels.
Back in October, Barcroft worked with partners like Off The Fence, Zig Zag Productions, and ITV Studios to create similar documentary content, the success of which led them to continue in this vein.Tags: Barcroft Media, barcroft productions, barcroft tv, Documentary, the grandmother lovers
