Barcroft Media to Invest in Creating Premium MCN
British media company, Barcroft Media, plans to invest a hefty sum (“hundreds of thousands of pounds”) into turning its YouTube channel, Barcroft TV, into part of a premium multi-channel network. According to Broadcast News in the UK, who first reported the story, the company’s founder, Sam Barcroft, stated plans to create an MCN the likes of “Nat Geo, Vice, or the BBC.”
With over 500 million views and 547,000 subscribers on YouTube, Barcroft TV currently releases around five to ten videos on a weekly basis, all produced in-house. The company has plans to commission short-form video from other independent creators to add the MCN, which will include as many as ten, new channels.
These new channels will roll out over the next year, each focusing a different genre, exploring themes in nature and the “extreme,” wrote Broadcast UK. In addition to YouTube, the channels will find distribution in international platforms such as GyaO! in Japan and YouKu in China.
The MCN Rightster supports Barcroft’s network. Sam Barcroft founded the London-based company in 2003.Tags: Barcroft Media, barcroft tv, MCN, National Geographic, Rightster, Vice, youtube
