Base79 Adds the Legends Football League as New Content Partner

/ Jan 22, 2014

Base79, which claims to be the largest MCN outside of North America, has inked a multi-year deal to manage the YouTube presence of the Legends Football League, an all-female tackle football league formerly known as the Lingerie Football League.

Per the deal, Base79 will run operations for LFL’s official YouTube channel. This includes helping the LFL increase its subscriber base (currently at more than 20,000 subscribers), as well as protect and claim its IP across YouTube.

“The LFL has produced some of the most engaging content in recent sports and this has attracted fans from all over the world,” said Ben Lister, an executive at Base79 USA, in a statement. “The league’s challenge has been to structure and manage its YouTube channel in a way to attract more subscribers and advertisers while also protecting against piracy. With LFL Films’ abundance of compelling weekly content, the potential for growth of the sport on YouTube is significant.”

Base79’s network currently generates more than 800 million views on YouTube across 1,500 channels from online creators as well as media companies like IMG Media, BBC Worldwide, Guinness World Records, and the Associated Press.

The deal with Base79 is the first of its kind for the LFL. The league says it plans to structure a “more sophisticated” delivery strategy for its on-demand content, which includes short-form programming like “The Story” (a behind-the-scenes look at weekly LFL match-ups), as well as other reality shows and full-length games in territories that aren’t blocked off by existing broadcast agreements.

“Sports fans now want their favorite programming on-demand, at any time, across all content delivery devices,” adds Mitchell S. Mortaza, executive producer of LFL Films. “LFL Films’ top initiative is to place our great programming into as many households around the world. Base79 has a proven track record in increasing reach on YouTube, which now has become one of the most important social media platforms for sports and entertainment platforms.”
