Base79 Adds Paid Channel from The Jim Henson Company to Network

/ Feb 12, 2014

Base79, which claims to be the largest MCN outside of North America, has signed The Jim Henson Company to its growing network of content partners.

Per the deal, Base79 will now oversee channel management and audience development for Jim Henson Family TV, a paid channel launched by The Jim Henson Company last May as part of YouTube’s initial paid-subscriptions rollout. Available for $2.99 per month or $24.99 per year, Jim Henson Family TV offers full-length episodes of shows like “Pajanimals,” “Sid the Science Kid,” and “Fraggle Rock.” Other types of content include music videos, parenting tips, and themed playlists, as well as Spanish-language content for an additional dollar per month.

To date, the paid channel has generated more than 2.5 million views.

Base79, through its newly launched LA office, will look to grow that number as it powers global online distribution for Jim Henson content. The LA office, which is headed up by Base79 USA COO Ben Lister, will also be responsible for rights management and ad sales for Jim Henson content on YouTube.

“With [Base79’s] international foundations they are poised to be a key partner for The Jim Henson Company as we enhance our connection with our global audience in this increasingly digital world,” said Richard Goldsmith, EVP of global distribution for The Jim Henson Company, in a statement.

Other Base79 content partners include The Associated Press, Guinness World Records, Zodiak Entertainment, and Hat Trick Productions. The company is backed by The Chernin Group and (indirectly) CAA.
