Break.com Teams with Smosh, Other YouTube Pranksters, to Do Something Good
Defy Media’s Break.com is teaming with Defy Media’s Smosh, as well as a slew of non-Defy affiliated YouTube creators, for a series of positive prank videos this week in support of charity.
Titled “Prank It FWD,” and coinciding with April Fool’s Day, the videos will feature pranks on individuals who are doing positive things for society. The pranks themselves will be positive. For example, the first video, Break.com’s “Best Shift Ever,” treats Chelsea Roff, a philanthropic waitress at LA’s Spring Street Smoke House, to a series of escalating “tip” surprises. Then there’s Smosh’s “Emma Watson Prank,” in which Smosh talent Joshua Ovenshire meets his biggest crush, Emma Watson.
These two videos are already live, with more to come this week from creators such as Honest Trailer’s Jon Bailey, Stuart Edge, LAHWF, Greg Benson, and Jack Vale. Altogether, the participants in the series combine to reach 22 million subscribers on YouTube, an audience they’ll promote this content to.
For every 1,000 views any “Prank It FWD” video generates, Break Media will donate $1 to social-change organization DoSomething.org.
“Taking the energy of funny pranks online and using it for good is an awesome take on April Fool’s Day,” said Naomi Hirabayashi, CMO at DoSomething.org. “We’re an organization that exists for young people so YouTube and popular personalities like Smosh are part of our every day, which is why the partnership with Break.com for ‘Prank It FWD’ makes perfect sense.”
