BroadbandTV Unveils Production Program for Channel Partners
BroadbandTV, a Vancouver-based operator of one of the biggest multi-channel networks on YouTube, also wants to produce.
The network is launching a new content-funding program for some of its channel partners. Per the announcement, BroadbandTV will fund original content projects for qualifying creators within its network. It’s unclear at the moment what qualifications are required for creators to get access to the funding.
In addition, BroadbandTV says it’s planning to co-produce original content with “select partners” in the coming months. This content will span multiple verticals.
The network did not specify how much money it has set aside for its production initiatives, though a spokesperson said those details will be made available at a later date. In June, the company closed a $36 round of funding from European broadcaster RTL Group.
The BroadbandTV network currently generates over 1.2 billion views a month on YouTube across over 100 million subscribers and 12,500 creators/channels. The MCN has an existing suite of tech and support services for channel partners, including talent management, ad sales, and a tech platform for creators to analyze and grow their audiences.
With these new content initiatives, the network now wants to own some of the IP that it monetizes on YouTube — something other MCNs have also been looking at as they grow their media businesses.Tags: BroadbandTV, funding, MCNs, Production, RTL Group, youtube
