‘Burning Love’ Producers Ink First-Look Deal with Fox Broadcasting
Fox Broadcasting is teaming with “Burning Love” and “Children’s Hospital” producer Jonathan Stern and former Paramount digital executive Keith Quinn.
Per the deal, Fox Multi-Platform Programming will have first-look rights to comedy projects developed by Stern and Quinn “that are suitable for incubation through digital platforms,” including Hulu and Roku. It’s part of Fox’s ongoing strategy to use digital as a means to develop successful properties for TV networks including Fox, FX, and FXX.
Additionally, Stern and Quinn will provide distribution and producing services, through Stern’s Abominable Pictures shingle, for select projects developed by The Lonely Island. The sketch-comedy group, co-founded by Andy Samberg (“SNL,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), inked a deal with Fox in January to develop digital and TV projects.
“Jon and Keith have a proven track record of making outrageous digital comedy series that have graduated to successful on-air shows,” said Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, SVP of Multi-Platform Programming for Fox, in a statement. (Here he’s specifically referring to “Burning Love,” which came from the trio of Abominable Pictures, Paramount’s Insurge Pictures, and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour, and premiered multiple seasons on Yahoo before being repackaged as a half-hour show for E!.)
“Fox is showing impressive leadership and innovation in an increasingly complex marketplace, and that creates great opportunity,” added Stern and Quinn. “We have always embraced producing for both new and traditional platforms, and are excited to develop hits for Fox by taking a talent-friendly approach to incubating new shows from our existing relationships and emerging talent, and to have the chance to work with the ingenious trio at The Lonely Island, as they develop for Fox, as well.”
Fox’s deal with Lonely Island is one of three multi-platform development units at the company. In 2012, the company launched an “alternative” animation unit called Animation Domination High-Def. In 2013, Fox secured a multi-faceted deal with digital studio WIGS to market their drama series as well as develop new ideas for digital and TV platforms.Tags: Abominable Pictures, Andy Samberg, Ben Stiller, Burning Love, E!, Fox, Fox Broadcasting, Insurge Pictures, Jonathan Stern, Keith Quinn, Paramount, Red Hour, The Lonely Island, Wigs, Yahoo!
