Canal Plus Buys Digital Comedy Network Studio Bagel
French TV programmer Canal Plus has acquired a 60% stake in Studio Bagel, a producer of original online comedy content.
Studio Bagel operates a YouTube comedy network that altogether boasts nearly 6 million subscribers and 40 million monthly views. Now under the Canal Plus umbrella within a new mobile-and-web division, Studio Bagel will continue to oversee these channels, while also using the considerable new resources at its disposal to incubate new talent and “innovative film formats.”
The company is led by founder Lorenzo Benedetti, who will continue to steer the ship.
Canal Plus has been active when it comes to YouTube. Not only is the pay-TV giant an investor in Maker Studios, but the company launched its own MCN last November. That launched included the creation of a new talent division called Canal Factory, which is focused on developing, producing, and distributing original online content.Tags: Acquisitions, Canal Factory, Canal Plus, France, MCN, Studio Bagel, youtube
